Leeroy Thornhill

As part of the biggest Dance act of the 90’s you will of course all know Leeroy Thornhill. Being a member of one of the greatest bands of the last 20 years is as much as an introduction any one needs

Leeroy spent 10 years with the Prodigy on their worldwide tours, numerous festival events and general hell raising shenanigans. A couple of years ago Leeroy left the band to concentrate on his own productions under the name Flightcrank and re launching his DJ career which he didn’t really have time for while in the band. He picked up his musical style whilst touring with the Prod in mid 90’s it is a mix of tuff breaks, old skool samples and electro known as Miami Bass. This is basically a great mash up of breaks n electro style toons, using plenty of familiar hooks, with a good old skool feel. Heavy on the electro edge and full of funk that rocks the dancefloor.

Production wise Leeroy has been very busy remixing and producing a lot of international talent including David Gray, Moby and Dr Doom (KoolKeith) and Flint. His own band Flightcrank released their first album in March 2001. His own productions getting mixed by the likes of Maxim, Adamski, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor and Genaside 2.

It went DJ crazy in 2003 with Leeroy having a full schedule including UK gigs and the festivals – V2003, St Petersburg Fort Dance & the MTV Festival in Ibiza. Internationally he has had crowds dancing everywhere: 3 tours of Germany and Switzerland, Russia, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, a tour of Japan as well as his 3 month summer residency at The Boom Boom Room @ Eden in Ibiza. Leeroy completed a very successful six date tour of Australia and New Zealand including supporting Public Enemy in December 2003 as well as headlining the massive 10,000+ New Years Eve event for Centro 360 in Singapore - a fitting way to end a great year.

2004 continued to be even better with more international gigs and festivals and a lot of time in the studio working on his next artist album and new productions with DJ Hyper amongst others. This is in addition to his numerous remixes including the Jungle Brothers and the Prodigy single “Hot Ride”. Leeroy went back on tour with the Prodigy in December 2004 supporting their number 1 album "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned"....but not dancing this time - he was injecting a dose of dance floor mayhem!

2005 started with a bang on tour in Italy and then straight on to Australia for the Big Day Out festivals in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast alongside the Chemical Brothers, Beastie Boys, The Streets, Carl Cox and many more. His year has continued even better with international and UK gigs and festivals each week and more studio work. He also played some live band dates late in 2005 alongside DJ Hyper and the year ended with a Hyper Live gig at the 7000 capacity Ministry of Sound event in Taipei.

2006 looks set to be Leeroy’s finest year to date with a diary packed with choice DJing dates all over the globe and it also saw the release in May of the Hyper album “We Control” featuring Leeroy on vocal duty.

He joined forces with reknowned DJ Hyper to form the band - joining them were Hypers production partner Ronnie and Jim Davies (Pitchshifter / The Prodigy). The album features collaborations with Wildchild (LA rapper), US Breakbeat superstars The Crystal Method, Dirty Harry (infamous UK rock chick and Tommy Lee collaborator), MC Xander and Kieron Pepper (The Prodigy).

The band (Hyper, Ronnie, Leeroy & Jim Davies) are already creating a buzz in the UK about live performance thanks to earlier mini tour culminating with showcases at London’s Metro & Fabric, they rocked the XFM Xmas bash at Cargo London. They featured on the cover of DJ Magazine in June with a big feature on their trip to Japan and have a summer schedule packed with dates at the finest European festivals including Roskilde in Demark, Dour in Belgium, Glade and the V Festival in the UK, Extrema in Holland and many more……. check out http://www.djhyper.com/ for more information.

Leeroy is riding high with the band and his Djing - so listen out for his trademark electro, beats n’ breaks at an arena near you!
